Summer Sunflower Mixed Media Art Journal

Hi, everyone, wow... I can't believe that summer break ends in two weeks. We really enjoy our vacation and family time during the summer. Now, it's time to have some challenge fun at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Our design team member Michelle has a summer challenge for us this week! She says: So many things have grown in the Summer. Inspiration can be found in backyard gardens and jars of freshly canned veggies or maybe children who have grown like weeds. Let’s see how a homegrown summer is inspiring you!

I created an art journal page to document my favorite flowers in the craft room.

These sunflowers were new addition to my craft room this summer. On this art journal page, I created the watercolor effect on the background with Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain and water mixture. The flower pattern was stenciled using Clearsnap Art Screen and Distress Spray Stain.

I stamped the sentiment using Tim Holtz Stamp and Clearsnap ink pad, pasted some Tim Holtz text tape to decorate the background, then layered and pasted the doily and photo on the page.

Some Tim Holtz metal embellishments were glued to decorate the photo with Tombow glue.
I added some random Tim Holtz Rub-On to finish off this project.

Hope you like this journal page and create something grows in the summer.

  1. I'm a big fan of your colorful mixed media creations. This project is softer and more delicate and I just love it. All the elements look so natural on the page. The distress stains really create a perfect watercolor effect in your masterful hands.

  9. Beautiful page and the background is so pretty!! We planted sunflower seeds in the garden this year, but they never grew, it might have been too early in the season.
